HOWEVER, most of the Hewland business originates from our Special Projects Department (SPD). So, what is this? The `SPD` is not physically a separate room, or department. The term `SPD` is used to describe a way in which we service the specific and confidential needs of individual clients. This involves close liaison between Hewland staff and the car designer, to establish their needs and wishes. Our lateral thinking design department, using 3D CAD, will then produce a tailored design, for further client liaison if necessary, before production starts. Time after time, our SPD end products provide cost effective solutions. Examples of this work ranges from customised alterations of an existing Hewland design, to complete World Rally Car transmissions `from scratch`.
