Originally this was Hewland components built in to a VW Beetle casing (See our History page). Nowadays, the casing is made by us, in Aluminium, because many of these gearboxes are still needed each year. We would suggest that a modern solution such as LD 200 or FTR be used for any new car designs however.
Normal Use: All junior formulae up to 1988 / Now various.
Recommended max. engine torque: 150 lb.ft=21 kg.m
Max torque with Mk 5 gears: 180 lb.ft=25 kg.m
Weight: 4/5 speed: 40 kg.
Casing material: Aluminium LM25.
Lubrication: Splash
Differential: Free, cam and pawl or powerflow.
Gear Selection: H-Gate.
Gearing Options: MK5 ratios are used in Mk8/9 gearboxes with 1.125 inch diameter layshaft, click HEREto see ratio list.
