William Hewland. Managing Director / Majority Shareholder.

After leaving Public School and then Technical College, William joined the business in 1982 at 17. He was in the design office until 1990 at which point he started his own motor racing career, providing first hand insight and experience so beneficial to the company. See 'Driver Profile'.

The retirement of his father, (company founder Mike Hewland), prompted William to fully take the reigns of the company in 1992. The following years were spent modernising the business, its products and even its premises with the move to a new factory in 1997. The culmination of this strategy is a modern and cutting edge business.

William describes his role as so: 'I provide the company with all the facilities that I possibly can, be it machines or people. I co-ordinate the direction and feel of the company. I have great staff, who specialise in their respective fields and report to each other and to me. I temper their collective decisions with what I hope is a rounded view of the companies and clients best needs'.

Stephen Deane. Business Coordination Director.

Stephen joined Hewland in 2001, initially as Commercial Director. Today, working alongside William Hewland, his role is to ensure that all areas of the business are pushing forward and functioning as a team. Every department reports to him and he is able to take an overall control of the ongoing business functionality.

His previous background was within production engineering. He spent 14 years in fluid-handling systems and fine-blanking applications for the automotive industry. During that time he held Senior Management and Directorship roles both in the UK and Asia, in the key areas of Plant Management, Commercial Management, Quality and Manufacturing.

Andy Scott. Design Director.

Andy is in overall charge of the design process within the company, maintaining a very much 'hands on' approach.

He joined British Airways for a four-year apprenticeship, later moving to SSI Gears in their design section.

He moved to the design office at Hewland Engineering in 1992. Since then he has been a Senior Design Engineer and Design Director. Andy's innovative approach to design problems and ability to 'think out of the box' have made him one of the foremost racing transmission designers in the world.

Outside of work Andy's hobby is engineering design! He designed and was team manager for an attempt on the world two wheel land speed record, using a rocket powered motor bike.
